Bright red-ruby. Black raspberry, musky espresso and bitter chocolate. A step up in intensity and grip from the bonarda-syrah blend, but in a distinctly structured style, even a bit tough for a young cabernet in this price range. With its solid tannic spine and finishing spice, this is not at all a tutti-frutti style of cabernet.

Dark in color, with aromas of coconut, leather, chocolate malt balls and generic black fruit. The wine is tannic and a little bit grating but generally in balance, with bold cassis, cherry and blackberry flavors. Not complex and seemingly made more for the everyday wine drinker than the collector.

Very good deep red. Plum, dark berries and smoked meat on the nose. Rich, fat and sweet, with modest complexity to its plum and mocha flavors. Finishes with broad, building tannins and good length. A bit half-hearted in its projection of varietal character, but this is sweeter and fresher than the 2005 version of Crios cabernet.

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon spent 9 months in one-year-old French and American oak and was bottled without fining or filtration. Purple-colored, it reveals an expressive perfume of cedar, spice box, black currant and black raspberry. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with lots of savory black fruit, enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years, excellent balance, and a long, fruit-filled finish. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

A very friendly, forward style, with slightly jammy raspberry and plum flavors laced with a toasted vanilla notes.

Susana Balbo is very high on Mendoza's 2009 vintage, calling it a "fantastic year." The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon spent 5 months in seasoned French and American oak. It is purple-colored with a classy nose of cigar box, cassis, black currant, and violets. Medium-to full bodied, it has excellent depth, savory flavors, ripe tannin for balance, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It will evolve for 1-2 years but can be enjoyed now and over the next 4-5 years.

The richly textured plum and currant flavors are joined by accents of dark chocolate and some vanilla-scented oak. The ripe, vibrant tannins give the wine beautiful structure and an amazingly long finish. This is a big wine for just a little money. Drink it now or over the next few years to enjoy the fruit flavors at their best. It will pair well with traditional Cabernet-friendly foods like grilled or roasted meats.
