WA 90 IWC 90 Pts - Winemaker's Notes - Tank fermented 100% Tempranillo that has been aged in older American and French oak. Picked from a 70 year old vineyard located 2,700 ft. in elevation. "Creta" means "Chalk" which is an important mineral component found in the top vineyards of the Ribera del Duero.
The 2006 Roble is sourced from a single vineyard at 850 meters of elevation, the highest vineyard in Ribera del Duero. The wine was aged for 4 to 5 months in French and American oak. Purple/black in color, the nose reveals cedar, mineral, damp earth, and assorted black fruits. Powerful on the palate, this tannic, structured effort has superb depth and grip and should evolve for 3ndash;4 years. Drink it from 2011 to 2020.
The 2007 Creta Roble is 100% Tempranillo aged 4andndash;5 months on neutral French and American oak. Bright ruby. Complex bouquet displays raspberry, blackberry and an exotic blood orange quality. Fresh and spicy, with lively red fruit flavors, good mineral snap and no obvious tannins. An elegant and precise wine that offers excellent clarity and finishing sweetness. And a solid value.
Glass-staining ruby. Spicy dark berry and cherry-vanilla aromas are complemented by anise, tobacco and herbs. Juicy cherry and blackcurrant flavors are pure and nicely focused, with no obvious tannins and a seductively sweet quality. Reminds me a bit of a Pesquera wine. Finishes on a lively bittersweet cherry note, with very good persistence and lingering spice and vanilla notes.
