Crane Lake Merlot California 2011
This wine has a forward fruit profile, including blackberry, plum and vanilla spice. The finish is long and soft with silky tannins. Suggested Food Pairings: This wine pairs well with prime rib, lamb shanks, swordfish or any Italian pasta. 76.2% Merlot, 23.8% Proprietors' Dry Red. Alcohol 12.5%.
Crane Lake is a value-driven brand produced by Franzia and Bronco Wine Company. The majority of these wines are produced in California, with some branching out into Australia (for Down Under Chardonnay and others). These are available in supermarkets and most retailers.
For $2.50 who am I to complain.
Not a bad wine for casual, every day dining. Always a crowd pleaser.
This was a surprise Merlot. It was on sale at the local Lowes food store. We were having a party where the wine knowledge was elementary, so we didn't want to spend a lot. Now much to our surprise, the wine was a great buy in the price range. Fruit forward, but on the light side. I rate this around the same or better than "2 buck chuck". If you find it on sale buy at least 6 since our local store sold out quickly!!!!
