Food Pairings for Cr Cellars 'Fortissimo' California Grape Wine L
Not quite 10 years ago I took my mother shopping at a Costco on Long Island. She grabbed a "gallon" bottle of Fortissimo wine and said "did you know this was your grandfather's favorite wine?" No, I didn't. I'd gone thru a period in my life where drinking alcohol of any kind was off the menu (I joined a well known religious group that forbids it). Fortunately, I saw the light and crawled out of out of this cultish morass and started reclaiming my Italian birthright, responsibly, I hasten to add. So when mama gave me this nugget of family history, I was only too willing to fall in love with Fortissimo. Wonderfully, it's made in St. Helena, CA, about 60 miles from where I'm living in California. I was able to purchase it for a while at BevMo locally, but all of a sudden they dropped it from their stores, in spite of my protests. So, on a trip into the wine country, I learned that it could be gotten at the Charles Krug Winery, easily found just a mile or 2 north of St Helena's main drag. Recently, I was up that way again and stopped in to pay homage to my grandfather, who as a kid I can remember making his own wine in our basement in Brooklyn, putting it in large barrels in a small room he'd created just for the purpose and smelling the musty wine aromas thru a small window. I went into the large sales room and spoke to a woman at the counter: "my grandfather from Italy used to make his own wine, but he used to buy..." and she stopped me mid sentence and said, "Fortissimo!" I asked her how she knew that and she responded, "do you have any idea how many people I've spoken to who've come in here and said 'my grandfather from Italy used to make his own wine, but he used to buy Fortissimo?' "I walked out with a case of 6 magnums. Fortissimo is not a fine wine and it's shockingly inexpensive. But it has a distinctive flavor and in a blindfolded taste test I could tell you which glass is Fortissimo. Salute!

Thanks Carlos for turning me on to this fantastic vino ! Perfect with any meal. Or just a glass to relax and unwind. I recommend to everyone. Give it a try...! Pete
rich, smooth, wonderful.....I like it TOO much!!!!
a good bud that grew up in Brooklyn and id super Italian turned me onto this wine. He says it is like the wine they made at home back in the day. I tried it and loved it!.
I made a veggie chili and decided to add a cup of Fortissimo. Let it cook down for a while and it was just great. Next time I will leave out the beans and veggies.
