Nose of toasted pineapple, intense aroma. Floral notes of honeysuckle and honey on the palate. Some hazelnut. Really nice. Not overly sweet and possessing good acid balance. Lingering finish. 93 pts 8/12/11 at Winery

Our 2006 Semillon Ice Wine shows intense aromas of pineapple, citrus and vanilla that are balanced by a bracing acidity. The wine has a long, lingering finish. Our Covey Run Semillon Ice Wine is a complete dessert in itself.

Ice wine is one of the world’s rarest dessert wines. In order to make it, vintners must leave grapes on the vine until they freeze. In eastern Washington, this requires a Canadian arctic air mass and temperatures of 19°F or below. Once pressed, the frozen grapes yield sweet, concentrated juice and very little water. The result is nectar in a glass. Covey Run has been making Ice Wine for 23 years and it shows in this rich but delicately balanced 2006 Semillon Ice Wine. It offers intense aromas of pineapple, citrus and vanilla, a luscious mouth feel, and rich, concentrated flavors whose sweetness is balanced by crisp acidity.
