Covey Run Sémillon Yakima Valley Reserve Ice Wine 2006
Wine Tasting Notes Our Semillon Ice Wine, a complete dessert unto itself, is made from grapes that freeze on the vine, concentrating their sugars and acidity. Rich and luscious, it offers intense aromas and flavors of pineapple, citrus and vanilla that are balanced by a bracing acidity and culminate in a long, luscious finish.
Nose of toasted pineapple, intense aroma. Floral notes of honeysuckle and honey on the palate. Some hazelnut. Really nice. Not overly sweet and possessing good acid balance. Lingering finish. 93 pts 8/12/11 at Winery
nice citrus flavor
The glass I had was listed as an "unusual and exciting white" at one of my favorite wine bars; it claimed to have notes of apricot, lychee, and rose. I thought it was very sweet and smooth - qualities I enjoy in a white - but the taste of lichee overwhelmed most of the other notes. With the strong fruit flavors and a bit of a bite, like prosecco, drinking this wine was a little like drinking a Fizzy Lizzy - but from me, that's not entirely a complaint.

Ice wine is one of the world’s rarest dessert wines. In order to make it, vintners must leave grapes on the vine until they freeze. In eastern Washington, this requires a Canadian arctic air mass and temperatures of 19°F or below. Once pressed, the frozen grapes yield sweet, concentrated juice and very little water. The result is nectar in a glass. Covey Run has been making Ice Wine for 23 years and it shows in this rich but delicately balanced 2006 Semillon Ice Wine. It offers intense aromas of pineapple, citrus and vanilla, a luscious mouth feel, and rich, concentrated flavors whose sweetness is balanced by crisp acidity.
