Food Pairings for Coume del Mas Banyuls Blanc
Philippe and Natalie Gard have made a big impact on Collioure and Banyuls in only a few vintages. Their reputation far exceeds the small quantities of wine they produce. Andy Cook is now established in Collioure and is working with Philippe as well as tending some vines of his own which will ultimately increase slightly the volumes available of Coume del Mas. There are many different parcels of vines. The first interest for us was in the Collioure wines, but the fortified Banyuls have been surprisingly popular and successful, in particular the Banyuls Blanc, made in a reductive and modern style with a fresh and dramatic flavour of ripe pears and apricots. We have little experience so far, but on the basis of our experience to date, these are wines which will surely age beautifully. The sweet Banyuls Blanc has delicious coconut and toasted nut flavours, with citrus, grapefruit, peach and kiwi flavours. It is bursting with freshness and flavour and demands to be drunk!!
