Cotes du Rhone Cairanne Berthet Rayne £ Premier .99 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

The Chateauneuf du Pape is the most famous wine of the Côtes du Rhone. The "Coteaux" (slope) of Chateauneuf du Pape, between Orange and Avignon, is one of the most beautiful landscapes in Provence. The Popes used to have their summer residence there in Chateauneuf du Pape (Pope in French). Christian Berthet-Rayne uses all 13 of the permitted grape varieties in his Chateauneuf. While it is a full and powerful wine it still has a certain finesse and combines complex hints of figs and spice. When you compare it to Berthet-Rayne's star neighbours, Beaucastel, it is remarkably good value.
