Côtes du Rhône Blanc la Redonne

External Review by Palm Bay International:

/ A great summer white made from 70 percent viognier and 30 percent Rousanne by renowned oenologist Jean-Luc Colombo. While Colombo is best known for his modern style syrahs from Cornas, he makes brilliant whites. This one has aromas of peaches and honeysuckle which follow through on the palate, along with just enough crisp acidity to keep the wine fresh and food-friendly for several glasses. This is like a baby Condrieu. Buy a case for August and drink this with shellfish, Chinese or Thai food.

Cotes du Rhone La Redonne 2006 - 90 Points, Wine & Spirits/ Blended from viognier and roussanne grown in and around Condrieu. This is redolent of chestnut honey, with delicate peach and rich marzipan notes. It's far more than you'd expect from a simple Cotes du Rhone. It's the sort of wine you might expect on the table of an expert fisherman and proud Marseillan, lusty and full-bodied, but refined enough to match a bowl of bourride

Côtes du Rhône La Redonne 2010 - 88 points International Wine Cellar/ Bright straw. Fresh melon and peach aromas are complicated by suggestions of chalk and jasmine. Juicy, penetrating honeydew and orange flavors show a refreshing spiciness and put on weight with air. The nicely focused finish shows lingering florality and a touch of anise.

Hailed as the winemaking wizard of the Rhône, Jean-Luc Colombo has achieved a high-profile international reputation for making innovative wines that are original, memorable and bursting with personality. Despite a resolute aversion to change in the Cornas region, Colombo has brazenly introduced innovative methods in his vineyards and throughout the production process based on a respect for nature and his fundamental belief that good wine is the culmination of three key elements: terroir, human endeavor and modern winemaking techniques. The result? A more accessible style of Rhône Valley wines, reflecting an exuberance of fruit and depth of expression and showcasing the full potential of the Syrah grape when grown in the unique terroir of Cornas. Through his intense dedication, Colombo has brought the wines of Cornas into the international limelight. The company now embraces wines representing major appellations of the Rhône Valley as well as the Languedoc and Roussillon regions of southern France. Production Area Rhone Valley, France Vines grow on granite terraces and gravelly alluvial plains of the northern Rhône Valley. The Viognier is sourced from 20-year-old vines just south of Condrieu, and Roussanne from 30-year-old vines near the appellation of St. Joseph. All work in the vineyards is done manually and without the use of pesticides or irrigation, respecting the local environment. Grape Varieties 70% Viognier; 30% Roussanne Vinification The grapes are harvested manually in small baskets and vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Fermentation takes place over 3 weeks at low temperatures, with a maximum of 64.4°F. 20% of the wine is matured on its lees in two- or three-year-old barrels; the remaining 80% is matured on its lees in tanks to enhance freshness. The wine is then aged for 12 months. Color Light straw gold Bouquet Viognier brings finesse and aromatic richness of flowers and the Roussane brings strength and round aromas of yellow fruit. Taste Exotic flavors of mangos and apricots are perfectly balanced by a nice acidity. Full notes of honey and peach develop in the glass, ending with a creamy finish. Alcohol 13% Serving Suggestions Perfect as an aperitif, it will also complement fish, shellfish, pasta in cream-based sauce and roasted poultry.

Côtes du Rhône La Redonne 2011 - Wine&Spirits - 88 Points/ Roussanne’s savory, nutty richness fills this wine right now, with Viognier’s fine violet and lily notes playing around its edges. It’s meaty and restrained, an elegant white for pork loin.

La Redonne 2013 - 89 points, Vinous/ Bright gold. Ripe pear, melon and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Supple, open-knit orchard and pit fruit flavors show good depth and an energizing spicy, gingery nuance. Ample but lively white wine with bright finishing cut and a touch of smokiness.
