This bottle of wine was part of a lot I bought from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/44411 Cote-Rotie is an AOC for red wines located on the west bank of the Rhone river just south of the town of Vienne about 20 miles south of Lyon. The name roughly translates as 'roasted slope' because the vines are grown on sunny terraced slopes overlooking the river. The wines are mainly made from the syrah grape although up to 10% of the white viognier grape may be added to the blend.Cote-Rotie is subdivided into the Cote Blonde and the Cote Brune on the basis of soil types.Domaine Duclaux [ www.coterotie-duclaux.com]is a 4th generation business which now consists of 14 acres all located in Tupin et Semons in the south of the appellation on the Cote Blonde. This cuvee is 100% syrah and is aged in oak barrels.I opened my bottle at the weekend as an accompaniment to my meal of roast chicken and I thought it superb. There is a blackberry or cherry style fruit with a subtle hint of pepper or spice. It is very smooth and well put together and I can see why the wine critic Robert Parker gave it 90 of his points
