Cosentino Winery Sangiovese Napa Valley Il Chiaretto 2005
The grapes were partially punch cap fermented. After aging approximately 13 months in small barrels, the wine was bottled unfined. California Blended in the of the "Super Tuscan" wines it starts with 92% Sangiovese which is complemented by equal parts (2%) of Petite Sirah, Early Burgundy, Merlot and Alicante. Spicy, exotic red and black fruit with hints of clove in the nose. A round, rich and balanced wine that evolves into an intense mixed berry sensation with ripe tannins in the center. A white pepper note finishes this richly textured wine.
Editorial Reviews for Cosentino Winery Sangiovese Napa Valley Il Chiaretto
A bit dusty and with a fair amount of earthy cocoa/choco notes over bright strawberry, black raspberry fruits lurking with nice notes of smoke and leather adding interest. Big and a touch sweet on entry with plenty of acidity from front to back and a touch of slightly austere tannins but ultimately chunky and a bit disjointed. Some attractive green herbal notes add depth to the wild strawberry fruits but there is a heavier load of wood here than the fruit wants to carry. Offers a moderately long finish dominated by grilled meat and licorice tones 87pts
On the nose resinous leather, fruit, white pepper, plastic wrap, high alcohol, with a palate of sour cherries, licorice sticks or twizzlers, and a woodsy profile... tasting like a Merlot blend.
Spicy flavor, good body, balanced wine that paired well with a spicy Americana feast.
Big luscious fruity-bomb power, with silky butter on the tongue, and tannins that know when to quit.
The nose showed a lot of wood barrel, ripe raspberry jam and a bit of funk that added some interest. Lush blackberry fruit and a mouth coating, ingering cherry finish.
