Editorial Reviews for Cos d'Estournel 6x
Perfumed on the nose with deep, layered notes of black currant, wood spice, herbs, sandalwood and Asian spice tones with floral top notes and a certain element that recalls perfectly ripe Cabernet Franc. This is a big wine, powerful yet fresh with slightly drying tannins. The intensity of the fruit quickly overwhelms the tannins and fills the mouth with ripe black raspberry fruit and notes of gunpowder and dark, moist soil. This clamps down a bit on the finish but all the elements are there for a tremendous bottle of wine to emerge in 12-15 years, perhaps more. It’s really massive and packed by all those tannins will take time and these are not the elegant tannins of 2000 or 2001. 94pts

Robert Parker 98 Points While I am not convinced the 2005 Cos d'Estournel will eclipse the compelling 2003 Cos, it is unquestionably another superb classic from proprietor Michel Reybier and his brilliant winemaker, Jean-Guillaume Prats. Made from an unusually high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (78%) and the balance mostly Merlot with a tiny dollop of Cabernet Franc, this superb effort requires plenty of time in the bottle. It boasts an inky/purple color as well as a glorious perfume of licorice, Asian spices, creme de cassis, blackberries, and toasty oak. This full-bodied St.-Estephe is exceptionally powerful, pure, and dense with a layered mid-palate that builds like a skyscraper. While there are massive tannins, they are remarkably velvety and well-integrated in this big, backstrapping effort that should enjoy an unusually long life. Forget it for 8-10 years, and drink it between 2017-2040. Wine Spectator 98 Points Black in color, with aromas of orange peel, new leather, currant, berry and Christmas pudding. Full-bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and a long, long finish of fruit and spices. The cashmere texture is all there. 2003 plus 2000 equals 2005. Best after 2015. 25,000 cases made. –JS International Wine Cellar 96 Points Good ruby-red. Knockout nose combines currant, plum, minerals, licorice and graphite. Wonderfully sweet, rich and deep, but with near-perfect balancing acidity to frame the wine's lush fruit. This superb 2005 has it all. Finishes with noble, sweet tannins and palate-saturating persistence. On my most recent visit, Prats told me he considered 2005 to be superior to the 2003, and that the '05 may be "our best wine ever."
Maybe 4.4+ stars. Color, this wine has a nice dark ruby red color. Nose, leather, orang peel (just a little), black fruits, blackberry, currant, some floral aromas coming through, licorice, some earthiness. Midpalate, nice black fruits, licorice, some dark chocolate, voluptuous, dry, young, full bodied, has a nice weight. Finish, very silky, elegant, smooth, nice complexity, well balanced, a little hint of bitterness (in a good way), lingering (45+ seconds and still feeling it), dark chocolate and black fruits are dancing on my palate, nice firm smooth tannins. Overall, this wine is very well made. It is a very modern still of Bordeaux. It has not peaked yet. I would put it away until 2026-2038. I am 95 on this effort. I am enjoying it very much. I would indeed recommend it to any wine lover who appreciates quality. Happy drinking!
Massive, massive wine-- strong tannins, cedar box, smoky ethereal quality, good dark fruit flavors. This bottle will be worth at least double its retail value when it peaks.
If you add together all the tastes different reviews compare this wine to, you would have the world's worst salad... "spicy clove and pepper aroma over cherry, smoky leather and raspberry" "currant, plum, minerals, licorice and graphite" "orange peel, new leather, currant, berry and Christmas pudding" "licorice, Asian spices, creme de cassis, blackberries, and toasty oak."

Cos puts together serious reds in serious years, and with large production for a relatively reasonable price. Cos's head, Jean-Guillaume Prats, has made the property's best red since 1989. Gorgeous on the nose, with currants, blackberries and cut flowers, it is full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and a solid core of fruit. Goes on and on. It is the essence of class and refinement. Best after 2010.
For a Saint-Estéphe this is surprisingly supple for its age. The density is all in the exotic fruit, while the tannins are more of a background. That suggests this is a wine that will develop relatively fast, but it is going to give great pleasure along the way.
78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Very dark, inky purple all the way to the edge. Gorgeous spicy clove and pepper aroma over cherry, smoky leather and raspberry. Outstandingly well integrated, rich, juicy super-fine tannins. Ri... Mike Supple. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2005 Cos d'Estournel 3000ml
Château Cos d'Estournel, consistently producing fine, robust yet fruity, full bodied wines, has yet again fashioned a remarkable vintage. Its impeccable fusion of Cab and Merlot tastes powerful and potent. The tantalizing black currant sweetness and cedar aroma can only be matched by its full, rich finish.
Good full medium ruby. Perfumes aromas of casis,. red currant, plum, minerals, coconut and violet. Lush, dense and gentle; rich and chocolatey. With so much baby fat, this wine appears to miss out on ultimate clarity and grip. But finishes tight, with a touch of austerity and nicely restrained sweetness. Still quite young. Drink 2005 through 2020.
Cos looks and smells beautiful, the aroma melding fresh currant and fine oak richness. Then it seems relatively light, with a lush, sweet blueberry flavor. The fruit glistens, both sweet and fresh, then melds into refined, dark chocolate tannins. A pleasing, lighter vintage from this exceptional terroir.
