Cornerstone Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Good Things Come in Small Packages!Through we made our name on Howell Mountain Cabernet, there is a lot of truly worthy fruit outside the appellation. A few years back we decided to make a Napa Valley designation, with similar structure and concentration as the Howell Mountain, but with a different flavor profile. The components in this vintage are from the Erba Vineyard, east of Napa at high elevation, and "the vineyard formerly known as Cornerstone", aka Neal 5. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon but in a more fruit-driven : aromas of deep cherry, lots of blackberry, rhubarb, bright cherry syrup, tea and vanilla. A soft, sweet entry leads to very vibrant fruit nestled in texture that is full, rich and round. Even more intense fresh berry flavors linger on the finish. The wine was aged for 22 months in small oak barrels, primarily French and about 80% new. Months in barrel: 22 monthsOak: 80% new barrels, primarily French, medium-plus toast

Cornerstone is celebrating our 17th vintage making only concentrated, collectible Napa Valley red wines. We are pleased to offer two extraordinary bottlings of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon: Howell Mountain and Napa Valley. Cornerstone Cellars is dedicated to crafting exceptional Napa Valley wines and our true cornerstone is our wine. By choosing to make our wines in a collective facility we are helping make a smaller carbon footprint in the Napa Valley. We believe this collective model is the future of small, environmentally aware estates. We have focused all our efforts, attention and investments in a quest to produce wines that challenge the very best in the world. We take pride in creating distinctive, character-filled wines that equal and often exceed the quality of the most sought after and collectible wines in the world. We invite and relish comparisons of our wines with bottles that often cost hundreds of dollars more. Our quest has been to find the finest Napa Valley vineyard sources for our fruit and one of the world's finest winemakers, Celia Masyczek. At no time are any shortcuts taken in trying to achieve our ultimate goal, exciting and profound Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Utilizing Celia's almost three decades of Napa Valley experience, the wines of Cornerstone are crafted from a range of superlative vineyard sites. In our two wines, Howell Mountain and our Napa Valley Cabernet, we have given her the opportunity to work with the full palette of Napa vineyards to create wines that are uniquely Cornerstone.
