Cornerstone Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

An excellent example of Howell Mountain intensity and hillside concentration; this was the only Cornerstone wine we produced in 2001 and only 775 cases were bottled. This is winemaker Celia Masyczek`s first start-to-finish vintage for us. Her notes of May 19 read, "Sweet black cherry and wild black raspberry, hints of roasted sage and cedar dust. Sweet, strong oak. Vanilla, caramel, blackberry tea. Teak. Rich, soft, full-bodied. Forward fruit inspiration lasts through the palate--wine finishes with fruit sweetness." 92 points "Dark, intense and concentrated, with a tight focus to the earthy currant and blackberry flavors. It gains in complexity, with hints of herb, mineral and sage and shows excellent depth, though it's tightly wound and needs to shed some tannins. Best from 2006 through 2012." Cornerstone is celebrating our 17th vintage making only concentrated, collectible Napa Valley red wines. We are pleased to offer two extraordinary bottlings of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon: Howell Mountain and Napa Valley. Cornerstone Cellars is dedicated to crafting exceptional Napa Valley wines and our true cornerstone is our wine. By choosing to make our wines in a collective facility we are helping make a smaller carbon footprint in the Napa Valley. We believe this collective model is the future of small, environmentally aware estates. We have focused all our efforts, attention and investments in a quest to produce wines that challenge the very best in the world. We take pride in creating distinctive, character-filled wines that equal and often exceed the quality of the most sought after and collectible wines in the world. We invite and relish comparisons of our wines with bottles that often cost hundreds of dollars more. Our quest has been to find the finest Napa Valley vineyard sources for our fruit and one of the world's finest winemakers, Celia Masyczek. At no time are any shortcuts taken in trying to achieve our ultimate goal, exciting and profound Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Utilizing Celia's almost three decades of Napa Valley experience, the wines of Cornerstone are crafted from a range of superlative vineyard sites. In our two wines, Howell Mountain and our Napa Valley Cabernet, we have given her the opportunity to work with the full palette of Napa vineyards to create wines that are uniquely Cornerstone. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
