Cornas Vieilles Vignes Fontaines Alain Voge 97 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

97-99 Points, The Wine Advocate: One of the superstars of the appellation (and vintage), the inky colored 2012 Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines, which will see 24 months in 15% new French oak, is an extraordinary effort that exhibits blackberry, blueberry, liquid rock, underbrush and charred earth characteristics on the nose. Full-bodied, voluptuous and gorgeously textured, this concentrated, deep and layered effort should become approachable around age 4-5 and have two decades of longevity. 12/13

Since its inception, several generations ago, Domaine Alain Voge has always been a family domain located in Cornas. In 1958, Alain Voge joins his father to work in the small typical farm. He decides to specialise in wine. At this time, this is an audacious decision: despite their history, the CORNAS and SAINT PERAY appellations are forgotten sleeping beauties. Very quickly, Alain overthrows habits. He extends his vineyards in places which had remained uncultivated over the last 30 years and develops the sales of his bottled wines. Supported by his wife Eliane, he visits the best national and regional restaurants to make his wines known. Thanks to their quality and to Alain Voge’s creative approach, the domain’s reputation rapidly increases. Yesterday, as today and tomorrow, our philosophy is to practice a hand made viticulture on the slopes of the Rhône right bank, dedicated to Syrah and Marsanne. Our wines are the expression of their terroir, for the pleasure of lovers, all over the world. Read less

Opaque purple. Powerful, exotic aromas of blackberry, cassis, candied licorice, clove and espresso. Seamless and intensely spicy, offering impressive sweetness to its deep dark fruit flavors. Really stains the palate on the gripping, highly floral... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Syrah wine from Rhone in France. 2010 Alain Voge Cornas Vieilles Fontaines 750ml

Only one cuvee of St.-Joseph is produced. The 2010 St.-Joseph Les Vinsonnes comes from a hillside vineyard planted in granite soils above the tiny one-horse village of Mauves. Its deep ruby/plum/purple color is followed by aromas of strawberries black cherries powdered rock and bouquet garni. Medium-bodied with abundant fruit and light tannin this impressively made St.-Joseph should drink well for 7-8 years. -Robert Parker Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

One of the few perfect Cornas wines I have ever tasted is the 2010 Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines. Even better than it was last year from barrel.when it received a score of (95-97), it remains the most backward wine of this trio, boasting an extraordi... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
