Cornas "Chaillot" 2005
Editorial Reviews for Cornas "Chaillot"
Oh my this is a surprise. There has been a mini proliferation of Cornas producers on the market lately but this Balthazar takes the cake! This is great Syrah floral with deep notes of classic violets, minerality in spades, you can smell the granite and oozing, warm baked berries. The incipient spice note unfurl slowly with hints of cracked black pepper and provencal olive tones. In the mouth this is medium full with superb acidity well integrated yet offering freshness and cut to the precise dark berry fruit. On the finish the spice tones move to the fore as the fruit tends towards the red, cranberry end of the spectrum. The tannins are well managed, rigid but not intrusive. As delightful as this is today I’ll give it 3 years in the cellar to improve and enjoy after that. 2011-2025 94pts
