Corino Vigneto Arborina Barolo DOCG 2005

Member Review by cabernet23:

My first experience with Barolo. O......M......G! I've been on a roller coaster ride with Italian wines. Some have been to die for....some I couldn't get through a glass. This is among the top wines I've ever had. It's tannic, it's fruit forward, it's smooth as silk. The combination I thought was near impossible to acheive. I was fortunate enough to have come across a 2005 of which was a terrific vintage for Barolo's, and had some bottle aging, affording me the luxury of opening now or aging. The instant gratification that I posess decided to uncork with a filet and shared with my dad and wife....it did NOT disappoint. At no sip, did I think it needed more time in the bottle. But it wouldn't have hurt it, that's for sure. What a luxurious wine....if you're a collector, do yourself a favor if you already haven't....be on the lookout for a Barolo. I'm late to the Barolo party. If you're into rich, tannic wine that gives you the complexity of a Bordeaux but the richness of a California Cab....give a Barolo a try. Get a reccomendation from the wine manager as it's a pretty overwhelming choice. They tend to be pricey, so if you're budget conscious, try and be on the lookout for when they're closing out a vintage and the price drops in half. These last about a 1/2 day so you'll need to ready. Decant....pour it through your Vinturi aerator.....let it breathe for a couple hours, and enjoy. You will NOT be disappointed!
