Core Wines Core Red 2006
Every year the Corey's create a blend of the three most noble Rhone Valley grapes - Mourvedre, Grenache and Syrah. This tasty wine forms the mainstay of their production. 18% Mourvedre, 33% Grenache, 49% Syrah. 694 cases produced.Tasting Synopsis:Nose: Rich ripe cherry fruit, black pepper notes with some dusty earth to add interest. Palate: Medium-bodied but with a well-toned, "zero body fat" personality. Mouth-watering fruit and pepper dominate scents of spice, earth and a trace of bacon. Will drink well for 2-3 years.The Winemaker: When I first met Dave Corey at the winery he rode up the driveway in full biking attire, pedaling easily after a long ride. With his Lance Armstrong physique and intensity, I suspected I might find some of the same characteristics in his wines. A few minutes later, our barrel tasting indicated that I was right - flint, steel, earthy minerality - all these in spades. Ripe fruit and pleasant earthiness nicely balanced with good acidity. Dave and Becky Corey founded Core Wines to extend their belief that "The core of every wine begins in the vineyard". And they live their slogan! Dave started in the wine industry on the viticultural side - eventually helping some of Santa Barbara's best wineries to grow healthier grapes. His knowledge and hands-on involvement in their vineyards is evident in their wines. For example, he personally visited each vine a dozen times last year, each time tending to a different aspect of viticultural need. We could not be more pleased to bring you these wines from this talented and up-and-coming couple.
CORE started in 2001 with 10 barrels. CORE focuses on red and white Rhones. All wines are blends featuring Grenache and Mourvedre from our high elevation Alta Mesa Vineyard. The whites feature Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Marsanne. We have 3 other labels which we produce. Kuyam features Bordeaux blends, C3 Tempranillo and Turchi Bordeaux varietal wines.
