Core Grenache 2007
CORE started in 2001 with 10 barrels. CORE focuses on red and white Rhones. All wines are blends featuring Grenache and Mourvedre from our high elevation Alta Mesa Vineyard. The whites feature Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Marsanne. We have 3 other labels which we produce. Kuyam features Bordeaux blends, C3 Tempranillo and Turchi Bordeaux varietal wines.
Unusual, intense, and delicious grenache, closest analogy would be like a dryish Banyuls from France. Tested at 55 deg F on bottled open but corked 12 hrs. Alluring rich nose of black cherry and dark forest berry with hints of fresh floral, cooling spice and perhaps powdery mineral. In the mouth intense chewy ripe slightly sweet fruit (black cherry, dark plum, and perhaps strawberry-dark raspberry) with notes of cooling spice and some hints from the nose. Finishes in balance with emphasis on the fruit, a touch of acid around the rim of the mouth, hints of orange, spice, and not much warmth. Off-dry, body medium plus, acid medium, tannin medium minus. Intense for grenache but delicious, good QPR.
