Soft, lightly herbal, strawberry fresh, some raw wood and raw meat, touch of baking spice, softish on entry, velvety fruit, nice savory tones then some woody sweetness, indistinct a bit on the mp but with decent acids, very soft tannins, shallow fruit but with nice raspberry tones

This is just classic Barolo, mint, porcini, herbs, fading cherry lozenge fruit on the nose that is layered and slowly builds in the glass. On the palate this was resolving but comes from another era with the huge tannins of 1982 now being merely formidable. There’s plenty of rich, earthy, slightly woodsy spicy red fruit here and it’s a bit rough and rustic around the edges but totally delicious. 91pts

Intensely minty and rose petally on the nose with a strong note of what appears to be slavonian oak. A new botte in 78? There is plenty of fruit here even though the aromas of red currant and rosehip have to fight through the spice. On the palate this is wonderfully focused, clear and precise with minerally toned flavors of dried red currant supported by fine , if slightly austere tannins and well integrated acidity. Certainly youthful, and while this is superbly balanced and totally in my style it does seem to be just a bit simple. A wine that should continue to improve in the cellar but I doubt this will ever be truly great. 90pts
