Francis Ford Coppola’s love for wine didn’t just sprout up overnight. His grandfather, Agostino Coppola, had a passion for wine back in the 1920s, when he used to make wine in the basement of his New York apartment. They weren’t sophisticated wines: they were just everyday wines that anyone could enjoy. Francis and Eleanor Coppola, Francis’ wife, attempted to continue this passion when they purchased their own vineyard in Rutherford, California in 1975 using the proceeds from The Godfather. This plot was a part of the historic Inglenook Winery, and it included the former home of Gustave Niebaum, member of the Culinary Institute of America’s Vintner’s Hall of Fame. After tireless effort by the whole family, the winery produced its first vintage in 1977 under the Niebaum-Coppola label. After many years of success, the family purchased Inglenook Winery in its entirety in 1995. In 2006, the winery was renamed to Rubicon Estate Winery in honor of the estate’s flagship wine. The Coppola family couldn’t stop there - in March 2006, they purchased the former Chateau Souverain winery in Geyserville, California, transforming it into the Francis Ford Coppola Winery. In their first four years, their family of wines exploded from 12 to 45 wines. Corey Beck was made the director of wine-making and the general manager of the winery, and he currently oversees seven wine brands. There are currently 9 lines of wine, each with a different personality and varietal composition. The Sofia line, for example, was created as a gift from Francis to his daughter, and it exudes charm, style, and romance. Read less

The Shiraz: A high quality, everyday table wine with a very pleasant nose, cherry-spice flavors, and smooth, finish with nice variety in aftertaste. Drink fresh and soon, alone or with pasta or meat. More fruity than others; less dry.

Great with barbeque and grilled meat - fruity but not too heavy. Very inexpensive.

This is a great table wine that goes well with hearty meat dishes.

A great every day drinker, not too dry, medium fruity flavor, light spice with a very resonable price. I buy this by the case!

An Italianate red from Francis Ford Coppola. Made from a delicious blend of fruity red grapes, this wine complements a broad range of simple dishes. Drink it with anything that calls for an honest, hearty red.

The clour is of deep garnet with rich aromas of sweet fruit and vanilla. On the palate jammy strawberry, with hints of plum, boysenberry, spice, and vanilla tones.

Rosso has smooth, rich layers of sweet dark fruits, cloves, a touch of vanilla and mildly toasted oak. Its mild tannins make it incredibly food-friendly, so it's easy to pair with anything from braised short ribs to grilled salmon or a sausage and pepperoni pizza.

Made in the same spirit as the first California table wines, Rosso Classic is made from a blend of red grape varieties. The supple texture and rich, juicy flavors of plum, cherries, mocha, and strawberry jam make this wine a perfect accompaniment to any meal.
