Copain Syrah Santa Lucia Highlands Garys' Vineyard 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

94 points Robert Parker: The austerity and tough tannins evident in the barrel sample... (100% whole clusters) are completed resolved in the bottled wine. Although still somewhat tightly-knit, it displays fabulous aromatics (graphite, blackberries, blueberries, spring flowers), full body, a fleshy style, and 10-15 years of life. (Feb 2010)

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

With my first introduction to this producer and as expected due to rave reviews, I must say, very impressive. Dark in color, wondrously intense nose including aromas of farm fresh strawberry. Heavy tannin gave the wine a meaty and masculine back end. Not exactly the smoothest finished, just imagine crushed velvet-like feel.
