Conundrum Red Blend California Wagner Family 2015

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Here's the latest release of the Wagner Family's Conundrum Red. It was 27 years ago that Caymus first launched Conundrum White which has fostered a whole new category of white wine as the entire industry jumped on the bandwagon. To hear Chuck Wagner Jr. tell it, his father would pour one wine into another at the dinner table making his own blend. This idea is what inspired him to create Conundrum white which has been wowing wine drinkers ever since with its beguiling and exotic flavors and its mystery blend. This red is also a mystery recipe but we know that it has a good dose of Petite Sirah and Zinfandel, two varietals that excel in Napa Valley that don't make it into any of the other Caymus wines. This wine shows a distinct spiciness along with lush berry fruit, hints of dark chocolate and vanilla bean. The finish lingers with just a hint sweetness that brings out the berry and mocha notes. Another winner.

Conundrum Wines:
What is that wonderfully robust, floral and bright tropical taste? Is it green apple, tangerine or honeysuckle? Could it possibly be apricot, melon, pear or light vanilla? That’s the Conundrum. Our proprietarily blend of California white grapes create a lush, creamy texture that leads to the mouth-watering question, “Mmmm, what’s in there?” We’re not telling. Can you guess?

We waited a long time for this one. Conundrum white has been wowing wine drinkers for two decades with its beguiling and exotic flavors and its mystery blend. Well they finally figured out that wine drinkers also like red. And they put together a mystery blend that's all lush berry fruit with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla bean and brown spices. And the finish lingers with just a hint sweetness to play up the blueberry and mocha notes. Don't ask what's in it but don't be surprised if you recognize Caymus Cab character in this mouthfilling red. Winemaking duties are now being carried out by Chuck Wagner's grandson Charlie. Another winner and we'd expect nothing less from the Wagner Wine Family.
