Winemakers Notes

Vintage 2006

The "puzzle" of Conundrum lies partly in guessing the range of grape varieties we use, because we never reveal its exact composition.

To create the layered flavors that go into the Conundrum blend, we brought in Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the Napa Valley, Muscat Canelli from Tulare County on the Central Coast, and Chardonnay and Viognier from our vineyards in Monterey County.

About on-quarter of the wine lots were fermented in stainless steel in order to preserve their individual fruit characteristics. The remaining read more...

Liked it, but really wasn't blown away the way some people talk about this wine, I think it's faddish, not as good as some Chard's along the same price. It's a little flabby for my taste.

Served at the proper white wine temperature, Conundrum has a very pleasant floral nose with hints of melon, as well. The taste starts out bright, with flavors of mango, passion fruit, ripe pear, and perhaps a little orange, as well. The finish is acidic, without being tart, and lingers for a very long time. This wine, however, suffers significantly if it is not served at a good temperature. Too cold, and it loses all of its softness, becoming an overly tart and acidic wine. Too warm, and it loses its citrus pleasantness and it becomes very alcohol-tasting. Normally, this wouldn't be too big read more...

This is my all-time favorite white wine, but just logging taste notes on it now. Had it tonight with an array of Chinese dishes - spicy, savory, sweet. I love this wine because it is so versatile and is my 'go-to' wine when I have a 'conundrum' (pardon the pun) on what wine will go with a meal, esp typical Asian gatherings where you have no idea what will be brought to the table. It has just the nice amount of fruity sweetness that is not syrupy sweet nor candy-like. Rather, it abounds with tropical flavors like pineapple, mango, papaya. I also get some melon, green apple, vanilla. read more...

Great wine! Such an interesting take on the off-dry white wine selection. Fantastic blend of grapes displaying great citrus and slightly sweet... Perfect for someone trying to grow away for the Rieslings while also supporting even the most developed palates. Very fun wine.

This is one of my favorite white wines for its unique hint of mango that slowly tantalizes the palate.

A great wine that goes with just about anything. I've been drinking Conundrum for about 6 years now and whereas it used to be very hard to find, now it's in good distribution and prices are very good compared to a few years ago.
