Contucci Rosso di Montepulciano 2008

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This starts off with a little sulphury funk that slightly obscures the slightly jammy notes of blackberry jam and leather nuances. On entry the acid here is almost bracingly prominent but the sweetness of the fruit quickly conceals it yielding a smooth mid-palate with excellent purity to the black raspberry fruit. There’s a nice note of salami on the backend, which turns more mineral on the finish, which reveals slightly aggressive tannins. This is slightly rustically styled but shows excellent complexity for a Rosso. 87pts

In 1700 the jesuit Contuccio was rector of the Study of Rethoric and responsable for the Kircheriano Museum in Rome. Read less
