Conterno Aldo Barolo Romirasco Nebbiolo Wine 2008
"The Conterno family started bottling this single vineyard wine after 2004 when they didn't make Gran Bussia, which is a blend of Rominasco, Cicala and Colonello. Incredible aromas of crushed strawberries with blueberries and minerals with hints of porcini mushrooms. Intense and deep nose. Full-bodied, with great depth of fruit with chewy tannins and a long finish of balsamic, dried fruits and chewy. Superb. Try in 2016...98" JamesSuckling.com 07/12 "The 2008 Barolo Romirasco is striking. It possesses a cool, mineral-drenched personality similar to the Cicala, but with an extra dimension of textural finesse. Sweet red berries, flowers, mint and crushed rocks are woven together in this exquisite, gorgeous Barolo. Powerful and authoritative, the Romirasco impresses for its depth and unmistakable pedigree. Today the 2008 is an infant, but great things are in store for those who can wait. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028...96" WA 4/2012 "This is suave and silky, with refined tannins providing a tapestry for the cherry, tar and spice flavors. Turns leaner and more sinewy by the finish, picking up a mineral component. The flavors linger. Best from 2017 through 2034...96" WS 12/12
Editorial Reviews for Conterno Aldo Barolo Romirasco Nebbiolo Wine
Early on this is noticeably oaky, then it turns a bit hard with floral and spiced dark cherry fruit. Clean, precise and modern, this is a bit beefy at first, smooth and broad on the palate. This shows a little hollow on the palate, there's nice fruit, explosively pure and slight candied and medicinal wild cherry fruit that is sure to please many palates, but the structure is taking control here and this is very structured for the vintage. There is no doubt huge fruit here with added complexity from notes of herb, leather, and violets , but the wine shows a weird blend of super fruity fruit and classic structure. This is a super fresh fruit bomb. I don’t know how to score this, objectively it’s a 93pt wine though if there ever was a case of a wine having too much fruit this would be one of them, but it is delicious fruit. Blind I might guess this is a new world wine.

Bright red-ruby. Cassis blackberry violet and sweet oak on the nose. Sweet juicy and imploded with terrific verve to the urgent flavors of dark berries and bitter chocolate. Elegant penetrating and strong with the cut and verve to support a long and graceful evolution in bottle. Finishes with oustanding lift. "For us the best time to drink wines is between 10 and 15 years after the vintage whether Barolo Burgundy or even Champagne " noted Giacomo Conterno. "At that stage they have
Very deep ruby. Very concentrated and oak driven. The nose almost looks like Cicala blended with Colonnello. Lots of succulent fruit followed by a minerally but restrained finish. Still a little bit unsettled on the finish. Very long and perfumed. 17.5/20 (WS) Jancis Robinson.
