Conreria d'Scala Dei Priorat les Brugueres 2005

External Review by Astor Wines & Spirits:

This white Priorat comes from the small, antiquated town of Scala Dei, a name that translates to stairway to heaven. Made of all Grenache Blanc, these vines are 100 years old, originally having been planted by religious monasteries who settled this area. This white is rich, complex, and full of mineral, yet does not see any barrel aging. Flavors of baked pear and a hint of licorice make this white Priorat a standout.

Although Priorat has emerged as one of the most sought-after red wine regions in Spain, there hasn't been much in the way of high-quality white Priorat wines. Most have been oxidative, monolithic, and dull. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and is left on its fine lees to impart a creamy texture and complexity. It is bottled with only slight filtration. Read less
