Conreria d'Scala Dei Priorat Black Slate la Morera White 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

91 points Luis Gutiérrez (Wine Advocate): ...despite being called black is really white... nice floral aroma and some waxy notes that were fresh and primary... mostly Garnacha Blanca with some 7% Pedro Ximenez at higher altitude as the village of La Morera is around 700 meters high and the soils are not only slate, but they also have some chalk (the influence form Montsant) that provide for a different kind of minerality, more sapid/salty. Great white from Priorat at amazing price. 8,000 bottles. Drink: 2015-2019. (Jun 2015)

Although Priorat has emerged as one of the most sought-after red wine regions in Spain, there hasn't been much in the way of high-quality white Priorat wines. Most have been oxidative, monolithic, and dull. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and is left on its fine lees to impart a creamy texture and complexity. It is bottled with only slight filtration. Read less
