Conreria Dscala Dei Black Slate Escaladei 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

92 Points, Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The red 2013 Black Slate Scala Dei is a joint venture between Jordi Vidal and US importer Eric Solomon. A classic blend of Garnacha and Cariñena aged in a combination of concrete, old foudres and barriques. It has the red fruit from the colder village of Scala Dei plus the advantage of a cool vintage, so the wine comes through as very fresh with some spiciness, nothing heavy or oaky about it. The tannins are silky, and the texture is very elegant. It feels young and elegant like a Pinot Noir from the south. This is an elegant Priorat for those who avoid the dark, concentrated, powerful wines and who appreciate more the elegant side of a Mediterranean red. Great value too." 6/15 #219

Although Priorat has emerged as one of the most sought-after red wine regions in Spain, there hasn't been much in the way of high-quality white Priorat wines. Most have been oxidative, monolithic, and dull. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and is left on its fine lees to impart a creamy texture and complexity. It is bottled with only slight filtration. Read less
