Cono Sur Organic Chardonnay 2011
Dressed in fresh purple red colour, this is a voluptuous Pinot Noir with rich fruit notes of cherry, raspberry, plum and strawberry – a red fruit party! – enhanced by subtle smoked hints. In mouth sweet fruit notes stand out, and its fine tannins give it a great texture and a mouth filling structure. Balanced and New World styled, this is a wine of personality and elegance. Sexy, pure and simple, it’s a young and refreshing Pinot. Food Pairing: Our Bicycle Pinot Noir is a great choice for all sorts of pasta, grilled poultry, seafood and mild fish. It’s also excellent when accompanying dishes served with pesto sauces. If ordering in, mushroom pizza and sushi go great with this wine.
Editorial Reviews for Cono Sur Organic Chardonnay
The nose starts out tight with hints of lime and white floral notes, but a little air reveals light peach and bright apple aromas. Light and almost elegant in the mouth, this is really a featherweight wine, almost fully dry with apple fruit flavors topped with a light, glossy hint of lime glaze. The finish is quite modest if fresh. Ultimately there is not that much to this wine, but what is here is fresh and delightfully easy to drink. 84pts
Rich blackberry aromas balanced well against dark earthy notes with hints of oak and vanilla. There are some tropical fruit qualities as well. The body approaches kindly with rising mountain berry acidity on the finish. It's a well executed pinot with moderate complexity.
Plum and spicy finish.
I disagree with some of the editor's remarks. I have stocked this in my home for more than a year, and find it to be refreshingly full-bodied, varietally faithful, and very juicily flavorful, in a dry, Alsatian style, but, yes, simpler with less restraint and earthy terroir. I am very fond of it, especially for the price!
External Reviews for Cono Sur Organic Chardonnay
Light red. Textbook pinot scents of red berries and musky herbs. Light-bodied strawberry and raspberry flavors show good clarity and modest depth. Pleasantly fruity, straightforward pinot with good cut and subtle sweetness on the finish.
Mild strawberry and raspberry aromas are fresh and snappy. All totaled, this is light on its feet and not overly demanding; flavors of red plum, raspberry and oak finish with hints of mint and anise along with lifting acidity.
