External Reviews for Cono Sur Cab/Carm
Ruby-red. Fresh blackberry and cherry aromas are complicated by hints of underbrush and licorice. Juicy and ripe on entry, with lively acidity giving focus and definition to the sweet dark fruit, coffee and chocolate flavors. Could use a bit more heft but this is a very approachable and easy-drinking cabernet.
Light-bodied, but with honest grip supporting the red and black cherry fruit and briary, vanilla-tinged finish. Drink now.
Roasted, leafy aromas greet you, followed by familiar scents of cherry and plum. The body is light to medium, with citric acidity turning the raspberry and pie cherry palate in the direction of snappy. Lithe on the finish, with a quick fade-away.
Deep ruby. Spicy red and dark berry aromas become deeper with air, picking up plum and dark chocolate elements. Full and round, offering dark fruit flavors, chewy texture and good finishing sweetness. Betrays a touch of warmth on the back end, but otherwise tasty and a fine value.
All of the 2005 Cono Sur entry-level wines are showing nicely, including this Cabernet. The nose is fairly floral and touched up by lavender, while the palate is racy and defined by zesty red fruit. It's kind of a throwback in that it emphasizes light fruit and acidity over oak and heft.
California-style Cabernet for half the price! Fruit-forward, dense, laden with cassis and tobacco. Great quality, great value wine from award-winning producer Cono Sur.
