Conn Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2005
Yummy, good buy at around $20
Picked this up at Safeway for around 17 bones on sale (I think it goes for $25). I wasn't positive I had a steal here until about 20 minutes in, this wine needs to open up a tad or decant perhaps. This a fantastic wine for the price point. The nose starts a bit hot but gives way to black cherry and sage. Smooth on the palate with gentle, pleasing tannins. A very flavorful cab with hints of currant, cherry, white pepper, toasted oak/wood, vanilla and pickled jalapeno. I read several reviews that say coffee and mocha. I certainly taste bitter unsweetened chocolate, but not a lot of coffee personally. This is a cab drinkers cab and super decent for around 20 clams at your local suburban supermarket. Buy a few of these and pop one open now and tell me how wrong I am about the coffee thing, then save the others for a few years and reap the benefits of this yummy napa offering. -J

Wine Tasting NotesAromas of bright cherry, vanilla and spice lead to sweet cherry fruit and cocoa flavors. This classic Napa cab is elegant and smooth, yet complex with dense fruit and a lingering cherry finish.
