Coniglio Cabernet Franc St. Helena 2005

External Review:

Coniglio Cabernet Franc Napa Valley The 2002 Cabernet Franc from Napa Valley is the first of many small lot wines that Coniglio Wines will produce. The wine was originally purchased as a blending component for their district wines, but due to its quality they decided to bottle the remaining wine. The aromas are packed with dark berries, spice and cassis. The pallet is rich, yet balanced with smooth tannins and a lingering finish. This is not your typical Cabernet Franc! The grapes were purchased from Alluvial Vineyard, just north of St. Helena. The vineyard is on the valley floor, yet has well drained soils, thus its name Alluvial Vineyard. The vines are quite old. No one is exactly sure of their age, though there is certainty it is a French clone.
