Concha Y Toro Trivento Reserve Syrah/Malbec Argentina 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

http://www.oddbins.com/products/productDetail.asp?productCode=85396 Funkier than James Brown, this Syrah isn't exactly the quiet, retiring type. Selected by winemaker Marcelo Papa, this Syrah is one of three superb Lot wines from Concha Y Toro. Each is a brilliant example of pure fruit quality bursting with Chilean character. Tasting Notes : Smoky bacon, mixed herbs, blackberry and ripe plum aromas mix with spice and vanilla oak. Complex and rich on the palate with layer upon layer of red and black fruit flavours. Producer : Concha y Toro Method of Production : Hand-picked from the Quinta de Maipo vineyard, the Syrah was destemmed, crushed then fermented in stainless steel tanks for 8 days. Left with the skins for a further 12 days to extract optimum levels of colour, tannin and flavour, the wine was transferred into American oak barrels. Here it underwent malolactic conversion and was left to mature for 12 months, slowly picking up vanilla and coconut flavours from the wood.

Another mass produced wine from Concha y Toro. Runs about $8-$9 for a magnum. Medium bodied with a meaty mouth feel. Hints of black pepper and other spices with a burnt or roasted background taste. Subtle but sweet tannins. Finish is muted and leaves rather quickly. Not a bad wine to drink if you want to drink a lot of wine and don't have much money. If your looking to get the real "Shiraz experience", I would look elsewhere (probably Australia or better yet, Northern Rhone if you got some cash to spare)
