What to Expect

Carmenère is one of a small group of wines that thrives in its adopted land but struggles to gain acceptance at home. It still is used on occasion in France's Bordeaux region where it adds color and complexity to blends with its distinctive mélange of smoky, herbal and gamy tones. In South America, particularly Chile, it ripens fully and the wines take on added layers of dark berry fruit that gives it a balance rarely achieved in France.

Winemakers Notes

Appearance: Bright.

Colour: Dark and deep red with violet nuances.

Nose: Very elegant, complex, strong character of Carmenere, red ripe fruit, spicy with hints of blackberries.

Palate: Great structure, mouth-filling, sour chocolate, sweet tannins, powerful and concentrated. Dense, oily with lots of fruit giving a long finish.

85% Carmenere, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc

Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months (80% in new barrels, 20% in one year old barrels)

Had this with a meal at Fogo de Chao last week. Delicious and versatile. Was pretty much ready to go straight out of the bottle. Definately recommended... Wish I hadn't paid restaurant markup... ouch.

Had this wine at Alfano's Restaurant. The combination of authentic Italian food and the mouth filling aromas and richness of this Carmenere was superb! What a delight!! Bright deep red, elegant and exotic. We brought 2 bottlles with us to enjoy at home. I highly recommend it.
