What to Expect

Carmenère is one of a small group of wines that thrives in its adopted land but struggles to gain acceptance at home. It still is used on occasion in France's Bordeaux region where it adds color and complexity to blends with its distinctive mélange of smoky, herbal and gamy tones. In South America, particularly Chile, it ripens fully and the wines take on added layers of dark berry fruit that gives it a balance rarely achieved in France.

Rating: 16/20 - As reviewed by Jancis Robinson This youthful wine is worthy successor to the delicious 1999. Very serious structure as well as voluptuously ripe fruit - unusual in Chile. Dry finish; multi-layered; very ambitious. 18 months in French oak. Lift. Elegance.

Looking for something delicious and new? This wine is what Bordeaux was originally primarily made from, now its found almost exclusively in Chili. This is the best example in the world of this incredible variety, which combines the best of Cabernet and Merlot. Bright, deep red in color; exhibits hints of chocolate, pepper and strong spices. Tasty and full-bodied, with strong tannins imparting the particular style of this very unique varietal which grows virtually nowhere else. This Carmenere originates in Lot 21 of Concha y Toro's Peumo vineyards, an area noted for highly permeable, read more...

Grapes were selected from the La Terrazas area of our Pirque Viejo vineyard, a 25-year-old vineyard on shallow, rocky soil. Proximity to the Maipo River makes this a unique area within the upper Maipo Valley. Yield per hectare was 25hl. Region: Pirque Vineyard, Maipo Valley, Chile Grape Variety: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon10% Merlot10% Carmenere Description: Deep, intense and ruby-red in color, with shades of tobacco and cedar skillfully intermingled with red berries. Great character and finesse. This wine is mainly defined by its great elegance and sophistication. Grapes were stemmed, and read more...
