Concha Y Toro Merlot Frontera 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Deep red. Intense berry and black aroma with hints of coconut and vanilla. Flavors of berries, cassis, black fruit, black pepper and toast. Great character and personality. Sincerity is excellent with pastas, chickens, red meats, cheese, and organic foods of all kinds.

This wine here in Brazil has an excellent tradition, BUT it is really expensive around US$ 225 or R$ 438 which makes it harder to have it on regular basis.

I'm not at that level where I feel I can give a great review, but to put it simple, it is one of the better wines I have had in my life (which is so far very few, since I just started wine tasting and experimenting this year).

The 2005 Mouton Rothschild will have to take a back seat to the prodigious 2006, but administrator Philippe Dalhuin deserves considerable credit for pushing Mouton to higher quality levels over recent years. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest mostly Merlot, the dark purple-hued 2005 exhibits a restrained but promising nose of cedar, tobacco leaf, creme de cassis, and toasty oak. Full-bodied, tannic, and extremely backward, with the vintageandrsquo;s tell-tale acidity, it appears to be even more closed in the bottle than it was from barrel. It does possess a long finish and multilayered mouthfeel. This is an undeniably outstanding, yet restrained, shy wine for a Mouton Rothschild. Anticipated maturity: 2018andndash;2040+

85% Cabernet Sauvignon 14% Petit Verdot 1% Cabernet Franc. Dark purple all the way to the edge. Great spicy clove nose over cherry new oak and cardamom. Very tannic but they are juicy and well integrated. Nice ripe raspberry fruit with a chocolate finish that keeps going on and on. This is a beauty. Mike Supple.
