Winemaker's Notes:

Appellation Central Valley. Vintage 2005. Soil Riverbench and benchland associated soils. Aging 70% aged in small American oak barrels and 30% in stainless steel tanks during 8 months. Colour Dark and deep purple. Nose Subtle aromas of chocolate, dark plums, berries, and spices, with hints of vanilla an and smoke. Taste Medium-bodied, with lovely tannins and a long, pretty finish. Accompanies A great match to lightly spiced red meats and mature cheeses.

Casillero del Diablo is a label produced by Concha y Toro Winery in Maipo Valley, Chile. Legend has it that in the early 1890s, winery founder Don Melchor went to his cellar to discover several of his best wines had gone missing. Hoping to ward off more thieves, he spread the rumor that this must have happened because a devil lived in his cellar, hence the name, which translates to “the devil’s cellar.” The first wines branded Casillero del Diablo were produced by Concha y Toro in 1953 and became an international success by the 1960s. The devil icon became a part of the packaging starting in the 1990s. The portfolio is now under the direction of winemaker Marcelo Papa. The wines are available in many styles and varietals of dry reds and whites, plus rosés and sparkling wines. Many of these considered terrific values for their pricepoints.  Read less

Big Me, I fan of the brand - the Merlot is consistently pleasant with it's structure, fine balance and presentation of the fruit on the mix. I love the history of the vineyard and the sincere attention to fine detail from a large wine operation. Me, I find sexy time from timely airing of the wine in my favorite pot, or get great results from a little swirl from an aerator... this is a wine to drink, now. Love it with an earthy meal...

Vino chileno. Monovarietal Merlot. Otro bombazo en cuanto a relación calidad/precio. Compré 3 botellas a un precio ridículo y me duraron 3 días ;-) Suave y con aromas a cacao y a frambuesa. Me gustó mucho.
