Concha Y Toro 'Gran Reserva' Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Member Review by jtryka:

The wine is a somewhat lighter color, with some deep purple transitioning to bright ruby along the edges. The nose is somewhat of an old world sort of blend of blackberry, cassis, intermingled with dried herbs and spice. The taste is a dichotomy of rich black fruit married against some fairly tart acidity, so that based on the aromas, you expect some dark fruit but are quickly flipped around by the acidity, before relaxing into some dark chocolate notes. The tannins are tightly wound, leading to a more modest but very dry finish. Complex and elegant, offering juicy red fruit and spice flavors, accented by some interesting pemmican notes. Sinewy midpalate, with graphite and white pepper accents. Anise and black olive hints enrich the finish. Drink now through 2017. 26,000 cases made.

Classic Chilean cabernet! Black cherry, mint, eucalyptus, smoky bacon, olives, white pepper and tooth-coating tannins. Incredibly long, enjoyable finish.

The 2012 Gran Reserva Serie Riberas Cabernet Sauvignon has a commercial profile, with notes of blackberries, dark plums, violets and tobacco, nicely-crafted, with a round palate, good balance, enough acidity, easy to drink, if not terribly exciting. Drink now.
