Concha Y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Xplorador 2007
The Terrunyo range is a prestigious range from Concha y Toro from vineyards where specifically chosen grape stock has been planted in small areas of carefully selected soils and micro climates. This range has been created by Concha y Toro’s top winemaker Ignacio Recabarren. The wines are very individual and characterful and will greatly enhance the reputation of Chile’s top wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon is 95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.5% Cabernet Franc from grapes picked in the Pirque Viejo Vineyard, Maipo Valley. The wine gives expressive black cherry notes with minerals and lead pencil on the nose with full mouth-filling, firm tannins with a good structure and a long finish. The 2006 vintage of this wine was highly regarded by wine critics, Robert Parkers Wine Advocat says of it, "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Pirque Vineyard delivers notes of cigar box, leather, mineral, blackcurrant and blackberry. This leads to an elegant, Bordeaux-like wine with spicy, savory flavors, excellent balance, and a lengthy finish. It will offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2021." The 2007 looks to follow on from this.

Incredibly saturated and lively for such an affordable cabernet, with ripe aromas of leather, dried herbs and a hint of pickle barrel. It whets the whistle with currant and berry flavors accented by spice and licorice. Xplorador Cab is almost always a solid buy, maybe more so in 2003 than usual. Think of it as the poster child for value reds from Chile.
Good fleshy mixed-berry fruit, with some sweet toast and a briary hint. Drink now.
Light and fresh, with red berry fruit and a hint of herbs. Drink now.
Kicks off with some balsamic and olive aromas, while the palate is full of black cherry and berry fruit. Round and clean, with a soft feel despite having real tannic backbone. Likable in a mainstream way.
Medium-bodied, with typical Maipo notes of mint, loam and red currant. Coffee-tinged finish, with supple tannins. Honest to its origins. Nicely done. Drink now through 2004.
Good black cherry, plum and vanilla flavors in this fleshy, medium-weight Cabernet, with a round, smoky finish. Drink now.
Dark, ruby-red. Plum and cherry notes with a touch of vanilla. Concentrated and soft, with rich flavors of cherry and toasty oak.
