- Tasted at Wine Spectator New World Wine Experience 2010
A superb white produced by Château Mouton-Rothschild. Expensive but the 2007 is worth a try, for a special occasion. Captivating floral, citrus and white fruit aromas, round with a subtle yet crisp acidity.
Great cab at a good price.

The 2006 Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon is a glass-coating opaque purple with an alluring bouquet of toast, tobacco, cedar, leather, mocha, and blackcurrant. Sweet, voluptuous (but not in a fruit bomb kind of way), layered, and complex already, its superb balance will ensure at least a decade of evolution and it should drink well through 2036.
Inky ruby. Expansive, intensely perfumed bouquet of dark berries, cherry pit, candied licorice and sexy oak spices. Broad, gently chewy cassis and bitter cherry flavors reach every nook and cranny of the palate, picking up an exotic violet pastille quality on the back end. Gains power on the finish, which features strong anise, tobacco and lead pencil qualities. Serious and in need of cellaring.
After a complicated 2000, Don Melchor is back. Grown at El Tocornal vineyard, at 2,200 feet in the cool breezes of the Andes, the newest version of this classic Alto Maipo cabernet is firm and round, ripe and elegant. The texture is generous, the firm tannic structure releasing cassis and blueberry flavors as the wine takes on oxygen. The fresh acidity, along with the juiciness and massive attack of the fruit, points to a great cabernet vintage in Maipo. You may want to lay this down and allow its complexity to develop.
Quite minty on the nose, with dark chocolate and cassis flavors and a slightly firm finish. Still, therersquo;s remarkably good flesh and mouthfeel for a rsquo;98. One of the top efforts of the vintage. Drink now through 2004.
This big, highly extracted reserve shows interesting, ripe flavors of plum, black olive, toast and mint, with very firm tannins. Not many Chilean reds offer this much structure and concentration, but itrsquo;s no surprise from this reputable estate. Try in 1998.
Reflecting the warm vintage, this is a ripe version of Don Melchor. Dark cherry and cinnamon dominate the aromas, while its soft, round texture delivers chocolate flavor with hints of mint and black pepper. Decant it for roast lamb.
***** - Decanter Magazine ‘Best Value *****’ - Decanter Magazine"Attractively perfumed rose, tobacco, mint vanilla and black fruit. Generous black fruit palate surrounded by supple tannins and fresh acidity. Long, lifted and complex. From 2010." Decanter Magazine. The concept behind the Trio range from Concha y Toro is a vision to create each wine from three carefully selected elements. Just as Trio is a blend of three varieties, its creator is a three-way mixture of experience, vision and supreme talent. Winemaker Ignacio Recabarren is responsible for Concha y Toro’s Premium and Ultra Premium wines. He delivers Trio’s expressiveness, sophistication and balance. For the Cabernet Sauvignon it is three different grape varieties, which when blended together create a harmonious wine. The resulting wine is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Shiraz and 15% Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet Sauvignon element conveys structure and concentration, while sturdy tannins provide length to the finish. The Syrah element opens up in aromatic exuberance, vitality and expression, and finally Cabernet Franc's delicate aroma imparts superb finesse and balance to this premium blend. It shows intense and vital red, with aromas of spice, black cherry, blueberry and a fine perfume of tobacco. It is firm on the palate, powerful, with a long persistence. These three varieties come together to shape a well structured, concentrated and intensely aromatic blend. The rich and concentrated qualities of this wine make it a fantastic partner for duck breast, beef stew or game, but is also most enjoyable drunk by itself.
