Casillero del Diablo is a label produced by Concha y Toro Winery in Maipo Valley, Chile. Legend has it that in the early 1890s, winery founder Don Melchor went to his cellar to discover several of his best wines had gone missing. Hoping to ward off more thieves, he spread the rumor that this must have happened because a devil lived in his cellar, hence the name, which translates to “the devil’s cellar.” The first wines branded Casillero del Diablo were produced by Concha y Toro in 1953 and became an international success by the 1960s. The devil icon became a part of the packaging starting in the 1990s. The portfolio is now under the direction of winemaker Marcelo Papa. The wines are available in many styles and varietals of dry reds and whites, plus rosés and sparkling wines. Many of these considered terrific values for their pricepoints.  Read less

This blend of Cab and Syrah has a smoky, rich, slightly peppery and herbaceous nose that fills the glass. In the mouth the wine is well structured with the richness of the dark berried Cabernet fruit cut by the spice and brightness of the Syrah. The finish is much like the nose with smoky and peppery notes offering a nice counterpoint to the rich fruit. A lot of wine, perhaps a bit monolithic at this stage but certainly a hit for people looking for this style. 88pts

The 2011 has nice deep color and minty nose but falls apart on the palette. Simple and light bodied with a short finish. My rating -- 79

A nice red with a medium body. Great value for the price. It has some nice tannins, but nothing overly complex, making it extremely drinkable for both wine novices and those more experienced.

Good example of nice balanced (supermarket) wine. Not overdone, not complex.

Tastes diluted, very watery. Maybe I just prefer a drier red. Either way, the flavor is decent and it's definitely overpowered by the watery consistency.

Чувствуются ванильные нотки, вино мягкое. Употреблялось с сырной тарелкой. Поставлю 5, за цена качество

The 2010 Casillero del Diablo Reserva Privada Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Limari. It was fermented and raised in stainless steel. Herbal notes of sage, thyme, and cut grass are accompanied by lime and grapefruit aromas. Medium-bodied, concentrated, and balanced in the glass, this dry, tasty effort will pair well with oysters and clams. Drink it over the next 12-18 months. - Robert Parker 86 Points

A smooth Cabernet Sauvignon full of cassis and black cherries complemented by hints of mocha and dark chocolate.

Herersquo;s proof that Chile and Cabernet go together like birds of a feather. The wine is full of black cherry and cassis flavors, and the mouthfeel is exceedingly fresh and proper. And the vanilla and chocolate-covered espresso beans on the finish are a classy ending touch.

With muscular tannins flanked by concentrated black fruit, this is untamed cabernet. A juicy steak would mellow its youthful energy. Best Buy.
