This wine brought me back to reds after years of drinking vodka...1999. I still love vodka, but Very, very consistant. Opened the 02 this Saturday night with my "Friends of The Vine" group for a Merlot tasting...it was a hit. Highly recommend anything from CyT, esp Marq CC

Winemaker's Notes:

Bright, deep red. Unctuous cherry, chocolate and smoke-led presence. The oak and core still cloaks its aromas, but in time all the firm fruit should evolve from straight on power to more complexity. A smooth, almost silky texture masks the firm tannic structure beneath, wich really comes to the fore at the beginning of the long finish. SOIL: It is alluvial, stony, poor in nutrients and highly permeable due to the gravel sub-soil. It produces plants of frugal growth, which bear clusters of small, concentrated ripe grapes. CLIMATE: Semi-arid Mediterranean. Influenced by the Andes, this is the coolest part of the Maipo Valley. The large swings in temperature from day to night prolongs grape ripening; concentrating fruit and intensifying aromas. HARVEST: Hand picked. April 3-20, 2002. AGING: 18 months in french oak barrels (35% in new and 65% in 2 year old barrels).
