Light gold. Ripe melon and peach aromas, with nuances of candied ginger and honey adding complexity. Juicy, palate-coating pit fruit flavors are given bite by a note of bitter orange pith and pick up spiciness with air. Finishes slightly bitter, with good energy and focus.
The 2010 Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere spends 18 months in French oak barrels of which 35% is new. It has an agreeable chocolate powder scented nose with notes of licorice coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, touches of mocha and spice with a dash of cardamom towards the dusty finish. Drink now–2013.
