Concannon Vineyard Petite Sirah Livermore Valley 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Balanced with lush, ripe berries and spicy dark chocolate. Fine, fruit flavors have many layers, and are complexed by some barrel age characters and sometimes some earthy notes, complexity and a lingering, silky finish. The Reserve Petite can be aged to perfection in 5-7 years or enjoyed now. Pair with Steak Au Poivre, eggplant with black olive pesto or pumpkin ravioli with sage and toasted hazelnuts.Platnum Award Los Angeles International, vintage 2005Concannons Petite Sirahs are wonderfully rich - Decanter Magazine

They could speak, the rocks of Concannon Vineyard would tell a tale rich in history. Concannon’s treasured contributions to winemaking have positioned it as landmark winery with an enduring commitment to creating outstanding, award-winning wines. We have a history of proud firsts. We were one of the first wineries to pioneer Bordeaux and Rhone-styled wines in California. We are the home of America's first successful Irish vintner, the world's first Petite Sirah and world-class wines from our fruitful, rocky soil. As a founding family of California wines, Concannon created the hardworking Cabernet Sauvignon Clones 7 and 8, which helped plant much of Napa in the 1970s. Pioneering founder, James Concannon, began making wine in the Livermore Valley in 1883. Now, his passion for family and fine wine is evident in every aspect of Concannon Vineyard and we’re fortunate to share it with you today. Read less

Nice. Not wildly memorable, but it definitely got an "mmm" when I first tried it. Reminded me of why I like Petite Sirah: the nice balance of spice and berries.

Bright berry with light pepper and charcoal notes. Dry, medium/full bodied, well structured with moderate complexity, zin-like flavours and a touch of vanilla. This dry yet well rounded version is more of a food wine than the more vibrant Bogle petite sirah. Has a satisfying finish. Very decent value at $19.99Cdn, .

A long standing favorite, a mouth-filling, assertive flavor with spices and tannins that is also smooth in finish and aftertaste. A strong Petite Sirah bettered only by Foppiano in my experience.

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 87Heres a rich, balanced Petite Sirah with a lot going for it. Full-bodied and dry, its enormously deep in red and black currant, dark chocolate and anise flavors, with considerable tannins. Easy to find, with 55,000 cases produced, and a great example of why Petite Sirah is such a hot variety.Wine Tasting NotesOur Limited Release Petite Sirah is an intense wine with vibrant berry fruits and a rich, full palate. The wine starts with attractive aromas of ripe berries, creamy oak and a touch of spice. This Petite Sirah is full bodied, yet it has a firm and balanced structure with hints of toasty oak and vanilla on the palate. Theres plenty to sink your teeth into now as the finish is quite lasting and memorable. Enjoy now through 2012. Enjoy with wild game, teriyaki beef, herb-rubbed lamb or decedent dark chocolate.
