What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

The Limited Release Pinot Noir is rich in both color and fragrance. This medium-bodied wine displays vibrant aromas of black cherry, ripe raspberry and strawberry as well as bright red fruit flavors that are balanced with hints of tar, leather and vanilla. This cool climate Pinot Noir has an interminable finish. Enjoy with smoked duck breast, beet and endive salad, or roast pork shoulder with prune, apple and pistachio stuffing.

Very light pinot noir. Reminds me of rubbing alcohol at first. The body is thin and somewhat bland on the palate. But then it opened up a bit. Little fruit, leathery, but light. It was OK.

Extremeley high acidity here, a great food wine. Raspberries and blueberries on the mouth with some spice and a light leathery finish. Paired with chicken fried rice, but would be versatile with many medium or light dishes. My main gripe is i thought the acidity was too high and muted some of the fruit.

Tasted 24 hours later: somehow the fruit had improved, so i bumped up my rating 0.5 points

Very light and fruit forward wine. Not offensive in any way, easy to drink and good on its own. Very good for people who may not enjoy red wine so much.

Wine Tasting Notesa typical, coolclimate wine that is smooth, aromatic, intensely fragrant, and deliciously crafted. Richly plum in both color and fragrance, this medium-bodied Pinot displays vibrant aromas of black cherry, ripe raspberry, and strawberry as well as bright red fruit flavors that are balanced with hints of tar, leather, and vanilla. This Pinot has an interminable finish.

Wanted to try something new, this wine was good enough, but not outstanding. It'll do the trick for a casual dinner with friends.
