Concannon Petite Sirah Conservancy 2007
The 2007 Petite Sirah, Conservancy has fantastic depth and character. It exhibits a rich nose of fresh berry fruit, and the flavorful palate shows blackberries, chocolate, mocha and plums. Subtle notes of molasses, cedarwood, and ripe mulberries are complemented by soft, creamy oak tones and a smooth, silky finish. Suggested Pairings: Barbecued chicken or your favorite lamb recipe.
had flavors of blueberry and plum. smooth but not as smooth as the 2007 non-conservancy.
A rich, full bodied wine with strong earth tones. Semi-dry. Not a favorite but definitely drinkable.
This is a Pleasurable surprise. The color Deep Burgundy and lovely velvet tone. On opening the Sweet Tabacco scents gentle rise to your attention followed by a Dark Berry with warm sweet plum. The nose is a delightful experiance only to be awakened crisply with the first taste. First sips are those of awakening herbs and dark berries dancing on my tongue. A mid palate of toasted , slightly roasted oak. The finish was long, dry, yet alive in a earthy and sage taste. Fruity in the front and deep boldness in the finish. Wow ! I like it alot yet it is so different then the 2005 and 2006. A unique Petite Sirah of it's own standing. I Wish I had a Juicy Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin to share with it... I know that would draw out the truth of this bottle.
At twice the price, the 2007 Concannon Conservancy Petite Sirah would still be a good value. Deep burgundy in color with gentle earthy and floral aromas and a lush, creamy mouth feel, this wine is soft, structured, and silky smooth. I've tasted some Cabernets that approached this level of smoothness--the 2008 Los Vascos Cab, for example--but not without skimping on fruit. This wine suffers no shortage of fruit; yet the red, blue, and blackberry flavors it delivers are well-tempered and smoothly integrated. There is absolutely nothing jammy or jarring here, and the smooth flavor rides all the way through to the soft tannic buzz that coats the back of the mouth on the finish.
Total surprise. Nice plum notes.

Concannon Vineyard in the Livermore Valley is an historic winery. Going back to 1883 when James Concannon first tilled the rocky soils, and producing exceptional wines for his time. Concannon claims to be the first American winery to produce Petite Sirah and over the years have continued to craft and perfect this unique varietal which we now know has roots in the Southern Rhone Valley. Meanwhile the Concannon family, recognizing the threat of overdevelopment in their Central Coast community, put their 200 acres of vineyard land into a conservancy trust, protecting it forever and insuring that it will continue to produce fine wines for all future generations. This Petite Sirah is from their upper tier Conservancy line and it shows the incredible breeding these grapes have received. Aged in French and American oak Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 90 points and said “Dry and full-bodied, it’s a peppery, tannic wine with satisfying blackberry and leather flavors. Will gradually unfold over many years.” A solid value.
