Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Taittinger 2007

Member Review by Dennis Lim:

it's everything I like about Champagne! very fine beads that tantalises the tastebuds and not overwhelming, nose of summer flowers; fruity and buttery, slight sweetness, yet so soothing...

Champagne Taittinger is one of the few remaining family owned and operated Champagne houses. The firm is distinguished for its extensive vineyard holdings of 752 acres, including prestigious Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims regions. Unlike most large houses, Champagne Taittinger relies primarily on estate grapes for its portfolio of Champagnes. Also unique are the higher proportion of Chardonnay in its wines that gives Taittinger its signature style, and the time devoted to aging the wines before release—most often greatly exceeding the legal requirement, in a practice that also has become a Taittinger hallmark. Distinguished for its extensive vineyard holdings of 752 acres, including prestigious Grand Cru vineyards. Highest-quality production: exceeding minimum aging for all cuvées, high percentage of estate grapes, sustainable practices. Uses a higher proportion of Chardonnay grapes in its blends than other large houses—Taittinger’s unique personality. Critical acclaim: consistently outstanding (90+) scores, worldwide recognition among connoisseurs Read less

I am thrilled with the way the 2004 Comtes de Champagne continues to evolve in bottle. A few years ago the 2004 was quite focused and linear in the style of the vintage but more recently the wine has begun to fill out beautifully. The 2004 remains bright with a full range of citrus white flower and mineral nuances that dance on the palate. A brisk saline-infused finish rounds things out beautifully in a Comtes that impresses for its crystalline purity. I expect the 2004 will always remain

Its fascinating to taste the 2004 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne after the 2002 something I have been able to do on a few occasions. The 2004 is all about minerality precision and tension. It doesnt have the sheer richness or power of the 2002 but it makes up for that with its crystalline purity and sheer energy. Bright hints of lemon oil white flowers and crushed rocks are layered into the pointed vibrant finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2034. --- Antonio Galloni Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Absolutely delicious. A combination of intensity and impeccable balance is the hallmark of this 1995 blanc de blancs. Precise aromas and flavors of citrus confit, vanilla pastry and hazelnut get a boost from the firm structure, and it keeps unraveling its charms through the long finish. Drink now through 2012.

A delicious, welcoming, generous wine that also manages to keep the pure, mineral character of Chardonnay. It has a very direct, linear, steely taste. Great acidity plays a part, as do ripe, fruity flavors and fine balance. This wine should develop well, but itandrsquo;s delicious now.

Fragrant and toasty, sweet apple and citrus nose. Nuanced and delicious. Toasty breadth, complexity, lively and elegant. Long and pure.
