Columbia Winery was founded in 1962 during the birth of the Washington wine industry by a group of 10 people from Seattle, 6 of whom were University of Washington professors. Under the name "Associated Vintners", their goal was to bring european-style wine to Washington State. They began production in the basement of a Laurelhurst home and grew to one of the largest producers in the state. The winery has the distinction of being the first premium winery in the state as well as having the frist Master of Wine on the continent as their winemaker--David Lake. David Lake was instrumental in bringing several varietals, including Syrah, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Gris, into the state through a partnership with Mike Sauer, the owner of the Red Willow vineyard. Columbia Winery was the first in the state to commercially produce a Syrah, which has become one of Washington's most acclaimed varietals. Currently, Columbia Winery produces anything from a stylish Malbec, to their most popular Cellarmaster's Riesling, to beautifully crafted Syrahs and Cabernets, to a beautiful Bordeaux style blend named The Peninsula. The 2003 Otis Cabernet was awarded a spot among the top 100 wines in Washington according to the Seattle Times and the 2007 Small Lot Riesling, a lovely, crisp off-dry riesling was named the Northwest wine of the Week. They are open for tasting 7 days a week from 10-6. Tastings cost $5; a small price to pay for 5 tastes from a menu of 8 wonderful wines. The tasting room staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and prides themselves on educating visitors on Columbia Winery as well as Washington wine. Read less

Light fruity aroma, lovely mouth feel slightly sweet but not cloying. So far my favorite wine. Found at Sam's Club for under 6.00!

19% residual sugar. Lychee's on the nose, followed by a great balance of glazed peaches, very flavorful. Some nice spice and good acidity throughout. Well priced - on sale for $20 when i saw it

This is a very nice riesling. Pretty straight forward and not too complex. Its sweetness is perfectly balanced by it acidity. Apricots dominate the flavor but you will also find pineapple and papaya. Not as deep and flavorful as a mid market German Spatlese, but a great wine at its price point. This one is a real crowd pleaser among those that appreciate sweet wine

Excellent wine for beginners. It's refreshing sweetness goes excellent with a meal. Just don't drink too much of this one, or you will hate rieslings for the rest of your natural life.

My wife loves this wine, I will drink it with her from time to time, but preferr my reds to her sweet whites. She enjoys this all year round, excellent wine to drink with friends before, during and after dinner. She really enjoys it with fresh fruit.

Rating: 83/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the September 2010 issue. More candied than fruity and never quite clear as to just what grape it might be made from, this poorly defined wine is undermined by ongoing bitterness that its very ample sugars are unable to hide.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.

Accomplished, but still lots of fun – just like you. Everything that's lovely about this wine is completely typical of the best Rieslings: honey flavors, apricot aromas, and perfect balancing acidity that makes it perfect alone or with food (even spicy Indian dishes).

Off-dry, with a sweet edge to the pear flavors, nicely balanced with a citrusy tang. Drink now.

Fresh apple, crushed stone, ginger and spices on the nose. Slightly sweet and supple, with the enticing peach and ginger flavors nicely framed by ripe, harmonious acidity. Round without being at all heavy. If only the winery's other offerings showed this sort of pliancy of texture.

Fruit salad and a touch of honey on the nose. Fresh, moderately sweet and juicy, with lively, fairly intense fruit salad flavors. Simple but attractive, and a bit less sweet on the aftertaste.

Sweet but balanced. The phenolic texture makes it less cloying as the pineapple and nectarine flavors linger. Drink now.
