Columbia Crest Merlot Horse Heaven Hills H3 2007
Wine Spectator Review Rated 91 Dark, supple and generous with its blackberry and black currant flavors, playing against superfine tannins on an open-textured finish. Floral, savory overtones add depth. Best from 2011 through 2017. Wine Tasting Notes The H3 Merlot entices the nose with spicy blackberry aromas and then explodes across the palate with slight dusty, earthy, and rich berry notes which cumulate in the seductive, velvety, cocoa finish.
At Columbia Crest we pride ourselves on delivering handcrafted, superior-quality small-lot wines, as well as affordable everyday Washington wines. Our first release in 1984 started a tradition that has established us as one of America’s most popular and fast-growing wineries.
One of my favorite merlots.
One of the best kept secrets around for Merlots.
My Rating : 89. Nice package with hint of oak and berries on the nose. well balanced with a hint of sugar residue. Where the vintner got the description dusty cocoa from is beyond me mayby he needs to calibrate his taste bus by taking a spoonfull of cocoa.
I personally have a hard time finding a merlot I enjoy, but this fit the bill. Oaky on the nose, but the palate was loaded with red cherry & blueberry (almost Gusher-like to use a Garyveeism) and chocolate; the oak did not come through there nearly as much. Soft but good tannins with a lengthy finish.
