Columbia Crest Merlot Columbia Valley Two Vines 2012
At Columbia Crest we pride ourselves on delivering handcrafted, superior-quality small-lot wines, as well as affordable everyday Washington wines. Our first release in 1984 started a tradition that has established us as one of America’s most popular and fast-growing wineries.
This is one nice merlot. Aromas of cola, cream soda and caramel with a touch of vanilla and strawberry jam and very smooth, deep and rich. The pricing on this is a gift from Columbia Crest retailing at under $9 dollars a bottle. I generally prefer a Cabernet but sometimes crossover to a merlot of this quality. If you like merlot this is the one and if you don't like it..........hmmm then I guess you don't like apple pie on Sundays. I will buy this one over and over as it is wonderful with my usual home mesquite smoked back ribs.
Lots of ripe black cherry in the smell and taste. Modest aroma of spice and cocoa. The taste is full of ripe fruit with some oak. Soft mouthfeel and smooth finish. Nice, easy drinking wine and a great price. I paid $7.95.
Really a nice Merlot! I like the entire experience drinking this wine from swirling it in the glass, the aroma, the smooth taste...who doesn't like chocolate and berries? Good to the last drop!
better than advertised. for an inexpensive merlot, this is excellent and surprisingly complex. great value!
better and lighter than expected, this wine surprised me a bit. i got it on sale at the supermarket, and it was very serviceable. it was a bit fruity on the front end and tasted younger than 2007, but i have to say that i enjoyed the experience. a solid finish and a solid merlot.
I thought this a more sophisticated wine than its price tag suggests. Fairly complex, moderately tannic and well balanced. Not your basic lush merlot; a little more reminiscent of a bordeaux blend.
Now, this is a great wine! Strong fresh, cherry aromas with a hint of blackberry. Flavors are perfect. It's an easy drinker and went great with baked chicken. A !!

This is the gold standard for $8 Merlot from anywhere in the world. Pretty fruit is highlighted by bright raspberry scents. Smooth and creamy in the mouth, with lovely flavors of sweet cherry and milk chocolate.
A gentle, open-textured red, with red berry and sweet red pepper flavors that glide over crisp tannins. Not a big wine, but has a sense of refinement. Drink now through 2011.
Though perhaps just a notch below the 2002 version, this remains the Merlot to beat in the budget bottle sweepstakes. Bright berry fruit is married to smooth chocolate, without appearing over-manipulated or laced with fake vanilla. Creamy and consistent, itrsquo;s widely available at a great price. Over 172,000 cases were produced.
Smooth and spicy on the palate, this Washington red unfolds its dark cherry, licorice and herbal flavors on a bed of fine-grained tannins. A harmonious wine, its fruit echoing nicely on the finish. Drink now through 2004.
Ripe aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, roasted coffee bean, mocha, and polished smoky oak dominates this elegant, supple wine. Itrsquo;s powerful, but understated. Everything about it is big, but itrsquo;s kept on a tight leash. Dry, with dusty tannins, its drinkable now.
The blend includes 6% Syrah, and the wine has a pretty plum and blueberry color, that (perhaps by the power of suggestion) carries through into the aromas. Itrsquo;s tight, tart, and clean, offering a mix of berry fruits and a finish lined with vanilla and tobacco. Overall the balance is excellent, the wine juicy and fresh, and the blend just about perfect.
From Washington State comes an exceptional wine. There are smooth chocolate and berry flavors up front, and soft tannins following. If you like your Merlot really dry, so that it pulls on your palate, this is the wine for you. Though it will complement many dishes, itrsquo;s enjoyable by itself.
